Igneous Rocks is known for its ability to withstand high temperatures from direct heat for long period of times. unlike river rocks, which are not porous and very explosive when heated,fire rocks are porous material capable of releasing heat through small holes in their outer layer. moist igneous rocks have been knows to "explode" and throw out pea-sized chunks of rocks as it heats up . the moisture captured in the fire rocks creates air pockets that can easily split the rocks when heated. igneous rocks should be stored away from areas of high humidity and kept dry to prevent this problem .
